'Newsworthy', five for open_on_sunday challenge #108 News Reports
Author: darkhavens
Title: Newsworthy
Pairing: principally Spike/Xander
Rating: NC17 for violence
Feedback: darkhavens @ slashverse.com
Concrit: by email, please
Disclaimer: Not mine, never will be. No harm, no foul, no money made.
Warnings/Squicks: Gruesomeness and mass murder abounds.
AN1: I decided to look back over my previous baby!vamp!Xander drabbles to see if the boys had done anything that might possibly newsworthy. I stopped at five, though I could have kept going for a few more. ;)
AN2: The title of each drabble is a hyperlink back to the older drabble or drabbles referenced in the news report.
AN3: While these are set in the b!v!X'verse, they are not all strictly Spander.

Without A Trace

After seven days with not even a whisper of a clue, Giles succumbed to the pressure of Willow's silent, screaming gaze, and contacted a friend in the local press.

The article, just a couple of column inches on page five, spoke of the disappearance of Xander Harris. It told of when he'd last been seen, leaving the construction site on the corner of South Wilmington and Eighth, and mentioned that he'd recently been promoted to Site Foreman, which was why he'd been almost the last to leave.

It didn't mention the not-coincidental disappearance of his housemate and possessive lover, Spike.

Twin Tragedy

"Lake City, Colorado, is in mourning today, for twin sisters Kate Anne and Hannah Parker. Their bodies, drained of blood, but still dressed in their cheerleading outfits, were discovered early this morning in a dumpster in the parking lot of the nightclub Benny G's."

Willow stopped reading the transcript of the small town's TV breakfast news and glanced around the room at her gathered audience.

"Willow, what on earth made you believe that Spike and Xander were responsible for this particular crime?"

She sighed, and slowly crumpled the report.

"They recovered all the cookies except the mint thins, Xander's favourites."

Daddy's Home

The news spread like wildfire through the demon community of L.A. Every non- and partly-human being inside the city limits had heard the rumour before the sun had set and rose and then had set anew.

The soul had been erased, had been fragmented, torn apart. Angelus was now back in control and, strangely, sane. His childe, the mad Drusilla, was responsible, they said. She'd bargained with the stars to bring her Daddy back intact.

The truth was, no one knew quite what she'd done, but it had worked, and now they waited nervously to see what he would do.

Wiped Out

The emails were coming in at the rate of one or two a day, and on occasion there were even three. By the sixth report the pattern had been obvious to see, and Willow had debated whether to tell or bite her tongue, but in the end her conscience did its job.

"Eighteen dead in four days, every one a Finn, by blood or marriage. This is much too methodical to be Spike's handiwork."

Willow nodded, in complete agreement with Giles, but had to add:

"Xander, before he... left, wanted to start researching his family tree. I showed him how."

Party Time

Jimmy's statement read like something from a B grade horror movie, and at first the cops thought he must be high. Blood tests later proved that theory false, but that just made the tale he told them even harder to believe.

Two young men who'd spent the evening dancing in the corner had suddenly moved out to block the door. They'd grinned then kissed and turned to face the party and... they'd changed, their faces rippling into something new. And then the mindless slaughter had begun.

The papers placed the blame on drugs and alcohol... and Jimmy. He left town.

Thankee. I had fun deciding which of their antics were really worth a second drabble. *g*

And poor Jimmy was lucky to get out of there alive. ;)
Genghis Katkat8cha on April 20th, 2005 02:44 am (UTC)
I can so see Willow doing that.

But poor Jimmy! ~pets him~
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:40 am (UTC)

Oh, man, there were all wonderful, and the background drabbles. But I got to agree with literati. Three and four are Pulitzer Prize material. ;-P
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:41 am (UTC)
Thankee! :D

I do enjoy inflicting pain on Riley. *g*

Wiping out the Finns?

I have no words.
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:42 am (UTC)
Thanks! *smooch*

Of course, they let Riley live so he'd know that all those deaths were down to him. ::is evil::
tabaquitabaqui on April 20th, 2005 02:56 am (UTC)
Oooh, i like!
Yes, get the Finns!
Heh.

And Dru! Knew she could do it.
Cool beans, bay-bee!
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:43 am (UTC)
Thankee!

Dru may be crazy but she's smart crazy. She may talk a load of bollocks but it all makes sense in her head. ;)

Oh good, I like sane!Angelus. Along with that second one...*snickers* Of course Willow would know it was him. I mean, it WAS thin mints, wasn't it? (Those ARE good...now I'm hungry...~_^)

Loved these!

darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:45 am (UTC)
Oh yes, Willow knows her Xander-shaped friend very well. Drained bodies and a noted absence of thin mint Girl Scout cookies? Gotta be him. *g*

Thanks!

Great idea, that's a really interesting take on your S/X story.
I liked the cookie one best, because my head can't come to terms with evil Xander *g*
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 20th, 2005 04:46 am (UTC)
LOL! I still blink occasionally when I'm writing evil Xander because I've had him do some truly shocking things. But he's such a good childe... *g*

Thanks! :D

I love the montage effect you create with these drabbles. Well done.
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 21st, 2005 05:00 pm (UTC)
Thanks! It gave me a reason (as if I needed one) to go back and read through them all again and decide what parts of their adventures to focus on.
sweet_exilesweet_exile on April 20th, 2005 09:30 am (UTC)
Oh I love these. Perfect Willow reaction, if something doesn't fit she must try to fix it. I hope to see more of Xander and Spike's 'adventures' and other people's reaction to them.
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 21st, 2005 05:02 pm (UTC)
Thanks.

Willow really doesn't want to give up on him, and even tried to resoul him in one of the drabble sets, but she didn't manage to do it. Not that she's giving up... *g*

Thanks. :D

Poor Jimmy may never recover. *g*
Sharvie_sharvie_ on April 20th, 2005 12:45 pm (UTC)
Ooo! Very intense. Really like Party Time and Twin Tragedy. Shows just what the boys have been getting up to in delicious gory detail. Delightful and disturbing. *shivers*
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 21st, 2005 05:10 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I actually had to dial Twin Tragedy down a bit cos the original even managed to disturb me. *g*

Is it bad that the drabble about the cheerleaders' death made me laugh?

"They recovered all the cookies except the mint thins, Xander's favourites."
That's just so Xander!

And I particularly liked Wiped out!
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 21st, 2005 05:11 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Xander's just a mint thin kinda guy. *g*

And Wiped Out was just another chance for me to be cruel to Riley. :P
Lorrainelunabee34 on April 20th, 2005 03:57 pm (UTC)
What a really clever way to revisit these drabbles and shed some new light on them. I really enjoyed this read.
darkhavensdarkhavens on April 21st, 2005 05:13 pm (UTC)
Thank you. I had fun choosing the dastardly deeds that got a second look. :D
